Read the casebooks

Simon Forman’s casebooks, recording 10,079 consultations between 16 March 1596 and 5 September 1603, are now available and can be browsed

or searched.

The first tranche of Napier’s records is in preparation, containing approximately 7,000 additional entries from 1598–1603.

We also have transcriptions available of a number of other texts by Forman and Napier:

A treatise touching the Defence of Astrology (Napier’s draft preface to Forman’s ‘The astrologicalle judgmentes of phisick’) Rueles and observances before youe give Judgment (Forman) To knowe where a woman be with child of a man or a woman. (Forman, transcribed by Napier) Howe you shall knowe which vivent [will live] longest of a man vel muliere [or woman] (Forman, transcribed by Napier)

This site also provides an introduction to the casebooks, information about how the astrologers constructed their records, a guide to reading the texts and a glossary.

Please let us know if you have enquiries about the casebooks.
